The Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering at the University of San Diego invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in mechanical engineering. We are seeking a motivated individual with demonstrated experience and skills in mechanical design, prototyping, and system integration. The faculty candidate will be expected to teach capstone design as well as typical mechanical engineering courses and conduct research in the candidate's specialty areas. A Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a related discipline is required, industry experience throughout the product development cycle a plus.

It's anticipated that these faculty members will work within engineering and across campus to build faculty/student collaborations and promote interdisciplinary strength related to design thinking. They will also create and develop courses that provide students with opportunities to practice authentic design including developing empathy, identifying user needs, defining design challenges, ideating, prototyping, implementation and testing.

We prefer hiring at the assistant professor level, although other academic ranks, including professors of practice, will be considered. We anticipate a start in the fall of 2018.
