Stress distributions in plain and satin weave composites were calculated using three-dimensional finite element analysis. Comparisons of the distributions showed that some of the satin weave behavior is predictable from the far simpler plain weave model. However, some aspects of the behavior require more geometric information than is provided by a plain weave model.
