A Calorimeter Apparatus to Measure the Enthalpy Difference of Heavy Water

A nonflow calorimeter apparatus to measure the enthalpy difference of saturated liquid heavy water from 100 to 350 deg F was designed and developed. The reliability of the apparatus and associated instrumentation was evaluated by conducting a series of measurements on the empty calorimeter and on the calorimeter when it contained a sample of saturated light water. The apparatus yielded information on the enthalpy differences of liquid light water corresponding to temperature changes of 40 deg F accurate to within ±0.4 percent and reproducible to ±0.1 percent.
