A means of obtaining peaking generation from existing generating units is proposed, by installing lower steam temperature boiler capacity in parallel with the existing boiler; the additional steam bypassing the high pressure turbine and the reheater into the intermediate pressure turbine. The economics compare very favorably to the available methods of obtaining peaking generation. Future peaking capability built into baseload units is also considered.
